Classes to resume June 15

Classes in public schools will resume on June 15, the Department of Education said Friday.
The resumption of classes was originally scheduled for June 14, but this coincides with the holiday declaration for the country’s 112th Independence Day, Education Secretary Mona Valisno said in a statement.
The country marks its independence day on June 12, but under Republic Act 9492, also called as “holiday economics,” holidays that fall on weekends are moved to the nearest Monday.
The class opening schedule covers all public elementary and high schools. Private schools may deviate from the June 15 opening as long as they don’t start classes earlier than the first Monday of June or later than the last day of August, Valisno added.
Private schools should also see to it they comply with the required number of school days, education spokesperson and assistant secretary Jonathan Malaya added.
